Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo: A Hero Forever, By Adnan Mukhtar Tudunwada
POLITICS DIGEST- I’ve written different tributes for individual who have passed away and those that are alive but the person that I will not get tired of paying tribute to is Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, a Professor of French Studies that have touched, reshape and rekindle the thought of thousands of people.
This is not a political panegyric but an encomium to a selfless, kind and most generous personality I’ve ever come across in my life.
Professor Gwarzo is playing the role of not only a guardian but a father and mentor that always stand by my side at every moment.
A business mogul of repute, Professor Gwarzo is one of Africa’s largest investor in education. In his philanthropic gesture, he has renovated a number of public schools, supported tertiary institutions and universities across the country.
Of recent, is his donation of a 36 seater luxury bus to my alma mater Yusuf Maitama Sule University and the construction of 10 block of classrooms at his Sabon Layi hometown in Gwarzo local government area.
After establishing Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria campus in Hotoro GRA, he renovated and furnished a Senior Secondary School in the area, a gesture that was appreciated by the people of the community in naming the school after the French Linguistic scholar Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo Senior Secondary School.
According to Daily Trust Columnist, Dr Ibraheem Dooba, he wrote in one of his column that the establishment of new private universities in Northern Nigeria will not only add value to the region by boosting its economy but will help in building cities in the area they are located.
Considering the value Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria is adding to the people of Hotoro community, the Village Head of the area renamed the road linking the University to the community from Kwanar Maggi as Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo road.
In one of his famous speeches, Nelson Mandela said: “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”.

In March 2021, the Federal University Dutsinma in Katsina State recognised Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo’s contribution to education by naming the University clinic after him.
The event was attended by thousands of dignitaries including the Sarkin Hausawan Turai who came all the way from Paris to witness the historic event.
According to the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Armaya’u Hamisu Bichi, the clinic was named after the icon of education in order to recognise his contribution to the University and education.
He said: “Since the establishment of the University; they is no any other person that has supported it like Professor Gwarzo hence the need of giving him more courage and recognition like this, others should emulate the young man.”
At his early 40’s, Prof. Gwarzo is an achiever, a hero and icon of education in Nigeria and Africa.
In his effort in serving humanity, the young academic didn’t hesitate to establish the Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo Foundation that’s going to the nook and crannies of this country serving humanity and touching the lives of the less privileged.
There are so many things to write about Prof. Gwarzo but because of his humility, he will feel unhappy seeing me writing it to the public.
He is one of the most humble philanthropist I’ve ever come across.
History will forever be kind to him for his contribution to education and service to humanity.
