Ajimobi Eyes APC Chair, As Court Suspends Oshiomhole
POLITICS DIGEST – The removal of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole as the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) by a pronouncement of the Federal High Court in Abuja has thrown up a leadership challenge at the party.
It was reported that the immediate past governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, whose approval as deputy national chairman of the APC was announced on Wednesday, March 4 may emerge as acting chairman.
Those pushing for Ajimobi’s emergence are relying on the APC constitution which stipulates that the deputy national chairman, south should assume the exalted office of chairman of the party in an acting capacity if there is a leadership vacuum.
Hours after Oshiomhole’s suspension, APC appoints Ajimobi, 2 others as new national officers Senator Ajimobi is set to emerge acting chairman of the APC.
There are, however, other forces in the party who may resist Ajimobi’s emergence as the party’s leader. Senator Ajimobi’s emergence is seen as an extension of Oshiomhole’s tenure by many of the chieftains of the party.

The immediate past chairman had stepped on toes in the party with his militant style of administering the affairs of the APC.
Governors elected on the platform of the party had ganged up against Oshiomhole to oust him as the ruling party’s national chairman. Oshiomhole’s cause was not helped by the constant bickering between him and some governors in the party.
Others see Oshiomhole as a major stumbling block to their ambition in 2023 hence the need to throw him out of the party.
While Ajimobi is seen as an acceptable candidate, because he is a former governor, many still suspect he will do the bidding of the former Edo state governor.

Already, an aspirant for the vacant position of the deputy national chairman (south) of the APC, Hon. Michael Akinleye had sued Oshiomhole over rumors that Ajimobi was being positioned for the role. The plaintiff in an originating summon said his right had been violated and grossly infringed upon by the action taken by the Oshiomhole.
