Renowned Kaduna-based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Abubakar Gumi, has debunked false claims about the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning Empowerment (AGILE), a collaborative project between the Federal Government and the World Bank.
He said the project aims to narrow the educational divide between boys and girls in Northern Nigeria, emphasizing its constructive role rather than misconceived notions.
Highlighting the broader scope of the initiative, Sheikh Gumi clarified that AGILE isn’t solely advantageous for only girls, but as well boys.

He underscored the initiative’s focus on refurbishing selected schools, thus enhancing the delivery of high-quality education in targeted areas.
Expressing concern over uninformed comments made by certain senior clerics regarding the project, Sheikh Gumi criticized the practice of passing judgment without comprehensive research or consultation with knowledgeable individuals. He urged fellow clerics to seek clarification on unfamiliar concepts before publicly addressing them from the pulpit, emphasizing the potential harm caused by uninformed remarks.
Gumi further emphasized that the schools reconstructed under the AGILE initiative by the World Bank could serve dual purposes, including Islamic teachings outside regular school hours.
