Anambra: Youth Groups Demand Free and Fair Election

Some youth groups have come together under the aegis of Emerging Leaders Forum of Nigeria (ELFON) and called on the Federal Government to ensure that the upcoming gubernatorial election is free, fair and transparent.
The groups which consist of Anambra State Council Of Youths, Catholic Youth Organization Of Nigeria, National Youth Council Of Nigera, National Union Of Anambra State Students, Youth Assembly Of Nigeria, National Union Of Road Transport Workers, Union Of Anambra Keke Napep Drivers, Anambra State Mechanics Association, in a communique after their meeting on Tuesday said that only a credible election can bring peace and harmony to the state.
The communique added that it is the responsibility of the government to ensure the votes of Anambra citizens count.

The statement read in part: “The holding of a CREDIBLE, FREE and FAIR Governorship Election to enthrone an acceptable state leadership for Ndi Anambra, as already scheduled for November 6th 2021 by the Independent National Electoral Commission, is not NEGOTIABLE.
This will be so, to avoid a constitutional breach that will lead to an ALIEN GOVERNMENT in Anambra State.”
The group also urged security agents and other stakeholders to collaborate with the ELFON so as to curb violence and voter apathy during the election period.
“The accredited Law Enforcement Agents are enjoined to collaborate with Emerging Leaders Forum of Nigeria and eminent patriotic bodies in Anambra to forestall VOTER APATHY”.
The Anambra gubernatorial election has already been scheduled for Saturday, 6th of November, 2021 amid security challenges and political uncertainties.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies have shown readiness despite the challenge from secessionists to disrupt the election.
