APC Calls for Obaseki’s Resignation over Comment on Governance Taking Back Seat
POLITICS DIGEST – The Edo State chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on the State governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, to resign from office, with immediate effect so that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) could begin to prepare for a fresh gubernatorial election.
Chairman of the party, Col. David Imuse rtd, stated this in response to a statement credited to Obaseki; wherein he stated that governance would henceforth take back seat while he begins political campaigns geared towards securing victory for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) at the 2023 general elections.
The APC chairman’s response was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the Assistant State Publicity Secretary of Edo APC, Osehobo Victor Ofure.
The Edo governor was reported to have said: “As from today, governance will take back seat while campaign will take front seat until Atiku emerge victorious.”

He was said to have made the statement during the inauguration of the State PDP presidential campaign council in Benin City on Friday.
The APC statement recalled that the State party chairman, Imuse had lamented in the past that “the collapse of governance in Edo is due to the rudderless government led by the governor”.
The APC chairman said his renewed call was in tandem with the fears of many people, that government in the state has finally come to a halt.
While describing the governor’s comment as lazy, Imuse said, “Even before this public display of cluelessness, Edo people were aware that Governor Obaseki has ran out of ideas since he was sworn in for a second term in office.
According to him, “Whereas, a faction of the embattled PDP which Obaseki leads has no candidates in the 2023 general elections.
“Even the PDP Presidential candidate, Atiku, is busy attending to his numerous investments in Dubai and France while other bonafide PDP governors like the chairman and director-general of the Campaign Council respectively, Mr Udom Emmanuel, and Aminu Tambuwal are still doing their jobs”.
Media aide to the governor, Mr. Crusoe Osagie, could not be reached for comment.
