Ex-APC Masalaha Group DG Yusuf Ado Kibiya Elected Factional PDP Chairman in Kano
The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Malam Ibrahim Shekarau and Bello Hayatu Gwarzo has elected Yusuf Ado Kibiya, a former Director General of the APC Masalaha Group, as the new chairman of the party in Kano.
The election results were announced on Sunday by Halilu Abubakar Mazagani, chairman of the election committee from the party’s national headquarters. Kibiya secured a landslide victory with 3,964 votes, defeating his opponent, Nura Nuhu, who received 244 votes.
Following the announcement, Barrister Abdul Fatah Muhammad administered the oath of office to the 39 newly elected state party leaders, including Kibiya.

The new leadership is expected to guide the PDP’s activities in Kano, as the party seeks to strengthen its presence and strategies ahead of upcoming political engagements.
In his acceptance speech, Kibiya expressed gratitude to party members for their confidence, promising to lead with transparency and inclusiveness. He emphasized his commitment to revitalizing the PDP in Kano State.
Kibiya previously served as Commissioner for Agriculture under Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso from 1999 to 2003 and as Director General of the APC Masalaha Group.
Meanwhile, the Kano State chapter of the PDP has recently faced internal divisions, with a parallel ward congress held last month by a faction led by Ibrahim Al’amin Little and Sadiq Wali. This group accused the Shekarau-Gwarzo faction of misconduct and called for immediate intervention from the party’s national leadership.
