APC Has Murdered Nigeria’s Democracy, PDP Tells UN, EU
POLITICS DIGEST – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday took its agitation over the nation’s democratic process to the headquarters of the United Nations (UN) and the European Union (EU) in Abuja.
The party also visited the French Embassy, calling for intervention on what it described as murder of democracy and miscarriage of justice in the country.
Led by the Deputy National Chairman (North), Senator Suleiman Nazif, PDP submitted petition to the unions, detailing what it believed were the infractions committed by the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government.
PDP had, two weeks ago, visited the American Embassy and British High Commission where similar complaints were equally laid.
Nazif told journalists after submitting the petition that the party was not satisfied with the way democracy was being run in Nigeria.
“We have come here to complain because we have realised that the National Assembly is being intimidated by the executive. The judiciary is being arm-twisted; the rule of law has become mockery and we thought it wise to come and lay our complaints because they (President Buhari and APC) no longer listen to anybody.
“That is why the PDP decided to reach out to the international community to lay complaint with respect to the electoral act that has not been assented to up till now. This is five years since the inception of this administration,” he said.

Nazif stated that the nation’s electoral processes have collapsed, and made reference to the elections conducted in Kogi and Bayelsa states.
He expressed the hope that the international community would exert pressure on the Federal Government to do the right thing.
PDP National Secretary, Senator Ibrahim Tsauri, said APC has derailed democracy in Nigeria.
Tsauri added that democracy was built on five pillars – the media, the electoral empire (INEC), security agents, the judiciary and international community.
“These are the pillars that support democracy in Nigeria. If one of these pillars collapse, democracy will derail on that side,” he said.
He regretted that out of the five pillars, only two – the media and the international community were left.
“Election umpire is compromised, you all know it. Security agents are part and parcel of APC government. Judiciary is being threatened and nobody has any confidence in the judiciary again.
“The only one that is now left is the media and the international community. The international community, anywhere there is going to be election, there are some monitors, they go and monitor, they bring in their reports, and most of these reports are negative.
“This is why we came to the international community to tell them that this is the expectations of Nigerians from them and we want them to do exactly what is expected of them to do.
“In Nigeria today, if you talk about security, it is zero. When Buhari came into government, he said that he is going to fight corruption; he was going to intensify on economy and then security. None is working now. This government does not listen to any voice except the international community, that is why we are here,” Tsauri further stated.
