2023: APC Opts for Indirect Primaries
POLITICS DIGEST- There are strong indications that the All Progressives Congress, APC, has chosen indirect primaries as the mode of electing its presidential and gubernatorial candidates for the 2023 general elections.
Some leading presidential aspirants and stakeholders, Politics Digest gathered, have been vehemently opposed to the option of consensus and vowed to test their popularity among the delegates of the party.
The Senator Abdullahi Adamu-led National Working Committee, NWC, of the party had earlier proposed the indirect method, which the National Executive Committee, NEC, of the party did not oppose at its meeting, held in Abuja on Wednesday.

The biggest indication of this decision was the timetable released immediately after the meeting. The third item on the table is the election of state and national delegates which is scheduled for between 7th and 9th of May 2022.
By jettisoning consensus and choosing indirect primaries, it means that no fewer than 7,747 delegates of the party will choose the 2023 presidential candidate of the APC.
The development has accelerated the race for delegates’ support by no fewer than 16 presidential aspirants who have declared their intentions to run.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Kebbi state governor, Atiku Bagudu said while there was no explicit discussion on it, the party timetable suggests that it is an indirect primary.
