I will not appoint people based on ethnicity – Atiku
POLITICS DIGEST- Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said if given the opportunity to serve Nigeria as President, he will not make appointments based on ethnicity or tribal affiliations.
He made this statement while speaking at a public lecture series organised by Arewa Media Interactive Forum at Arewa House in Kaduna.
The lecture titled ‘Unity in Diversity’ was presented by the governor of Akwa Ibom State, Udom Emmanuel.
Atiku further urged Nigerians to respect their differences for the sake of peace and development of the country.
“I will form a government that does not recognise family and friends. When we make appointments based on ethnicity then we are bound to disintegrate.

“Throughout my life, I have seen everybody in this country as a Nigerian, that’s why I married women from diverse backgrounds.
“My children have relatives from diverse backgrounds, all Nigerians are equal.
“We can only have a united Nigeria when we accept diversity by strategically promoting unity,” he said.
On his part, Governor Udom described the problem of Nigeria as that of the elite.
He noted that when members of the elite class sit and discuss, the problems of the country are over.
The event was attended by prominent personalities including Ambassador Shehu Malami, Sarkin Sudan; Alhaji Mohammed Ibrahim, Makaman Ringim; former Petroleum Minister, Umar Dembo, and the Chairman of House of Representatives Committee on National Security and Intelligence, Shaaban Ibrahim Sharada, among others.
