Arewa Youths Hail FG for Proscribing Amotekun, Say Outfit Threat to National Security
POLITIC DIGEST – The Arewa Youths under the auspices of the Northern Youths Council of Nigeria (NYCN) have commended the Federal Government’s decision of declaring the Southwest security outfit, otherwise known as ‘Amotekun’ as illegal.
They described the declaration of the security formation as timely and a welcome development, noting that the decision is in the best interest of Nigeria’s unity and safety.
NYCN, in a statement signed by its national president, Isa Abubakar, said the Attorney General of the Federation’s intervention is a job welcome and impressive legal point of view, citing the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as Amended) as justification. This according to them has further reassured their position on the outfit.

NYCN added that, “Amotekun is an illegal entity and unconstitutional security outfit conceded for a sinister plan and purpose by some enemy of the state from South West.
“Amotekun remains a threat to national security and it is the military wing of the OPC. We advise the Government not to allow any formation of terrorist group in the name of security outfit disguised in all part of the nation.
“The Government institutions responsible for protecting lives and property remains Police and other paramilitary and military agencies established by law of Nigeria, government should rather increase their manpower and reasonably empower them with sophisticated arms to fight the insecurity accross Nigeria rather than giving in for controversial Amotekun that come with sinister motives”, NYCN added.
They also advised Federal Government to arrest any individual who decides not to comply with the directive.
Recall that on Wednesday, Nigeria’s Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami declared the regional security outfit as illegal, five days after its formal commissioning.
