The Art of Preserving Peace!!!
Saleh Shehu Ashaka
A Deliberate Approach to Life In today’s fast-paced world, where noise often drowns out clarity and chaos can overshadow tranquility, the pursuit of peace has become an art form. For many, the conventional definitions of success—wealth, status, and incessant busyness—are celebrated, while the quieter joys of life are frequently overlooked. Yet, as I’ve discovered in my own journey, a peaceful existence is not merely a fortunate accident; it is a conscious choice and a design crafted through careful consideration and selective living.
One of the most transformative decisions I’ve made is to be intentional about the company I keep. Surrounding myself with individuals who uplift, inspire, and foster positivity has been crucial to maintaining my peace. This selectiveness doesn’t mean isolating ourselves from others or being exclusive; rather, it involves nurturing relationships that enrich our lives and contribute to our well-being. Toxicity, negativity, and drama have no place in a life committed to serenity.
Research consistently shows that social connections profoundly influence our mental health. A study published in the journal highlights that quality relationships—rather than quantity—are critical for fostering happiness.
By surrounding myself with people who reflect my values and support my aspirations, I cultivate an environment ripe for peace and growth.
Equally vital to preserving my peace is my willingness to say no to opportunities that do not align with my goals or values. In a culture that often glorifies the hustle and the relentless chase for more, it can feel counterintuitive to decline offers or invitations.
However, embracing the power of “no” has been liberating. It allows me to prioritize what truly matters and focus my energy on pursuits that bring joy and fulfillment.

A 2016 study in the Journal found that individuals who are more selective about their commitments report higher levels of satisfaction and lower levels of stress. This reinforces the idea that by intentionally choosing where to invest our time and effort, we can create a harmonious balance in our lives.
The places I choose to go also play a significant role in nurturing my peace. Whether it’s a tranquil park, a cozy café, or a serene beach, intentional exploration of spaces that calm and recharge me is essential. Environments impact mood and energy in profound ways.
A noisy, chaotic setting can elevate stress levels, while nature or quiet corners inspire introspection and relaxation.
In recent years, there has been a growing body of literature on the benefits of mindfulness and being present in our surroundings. Research from Stanford University suggests that spending time in nature enhances well-being and reduces stress, making a strong case for the importance of choosing peaceful environments.
While the path to preserving peace is rewarding, it is not without its challenges. Social media, constant notifications, and the pressures of modern living can intrude upon our serenity. It requires vigilance and commitment to maintain boundaries and stay grounded amid external distractions. Practicing mindfulness, engaging in regular self-reflection, and cultivating gratitude can fortify our resolve against these disturbances.
the pursuit of peace is not just a personal journey; it is a collective responsibility. As individuals strive to cultivate tranquility in their lives, they inherently contribute to a more harmonious society.
When we prioritize peace within ourselves, we radiate that energy outward, positively impacting those around us. In conclusion, the peace I cherish is the result of deliberate choices concerning my relationships, commitments, and environments.
It serves as a reminder that a fulfilling life does not hinge on constant activity but rather on intentional living that honors our needs and desires.
I encourage everyone to explore the art of preserving peace in their lives—it is a journey worth embarking on for a more balanced, joyful existence.
