The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, University of Maiduguri Chapter, staged a one-day peaceful protest against pro-rata payment and unpaid eight months’ salaries on Tuesday.
The protest was led by the Chairman of the ASUU Unimaid Chapter Dr. Abubakar Saidu.
He said that prorated salaries mean an inconclusive session.
“Pay us our eight months salaries for us to mark the scripts and produce the results else no promotion, no graduation.”
The protest was announced by the Registrar of the University Ahmad A. Lawan in a statement titled “Postponement of Examinations” on Friday, 18th of November.
In a banner, the lecturers said that University Academic Sessions are holistic, adding that students must complete a whole session to proceed to the next level.
“Pay ASUU members their withheld 8 months’ salaries for them to conclude the pending session!”
A lecturer who was part of the protest wrote on his Facebook account: “The magnitude at which you ‘loot’ the treasury makes us believe the nation is not yet broken. Just give Nigerian Youth subsidised quality Education, Kawai!”
