2023: Atiku’s Northeast Ally, Gwamna, Dumps PDP for APC
POLITICS DIGEST- The crisis rocking the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Gombe took another turn on Saturday when the runner-up to the party’s gubernatorial candidate, Jamilu Gwamna, left for the All Progressive Congress (APC).
Gwamna, who addressed journalists at his residence in Orji Estate Gombe, said he decided to leave the PDP because of irreconcilable differences after Jibrin Barde emerged as the party’s governorship flag bearer.
Barde has since been having a running battle with factions in the party which he allegedly described as inconsequential for his success in the 2023 governorship election.
But Gwamna lamented the absence of unity in Gombe PDP, which he said is the most important ingredient for the success of any political party.
“I am addressing you today to formally inform you of my exit from the PDP and I have also come back to my party the All Progressive Congress APC,” he said.

He cited internal crisis, poor leadership, disregard for rule of law within the party and disunity as the reason for his decision to dump the PDP.
According to him, the leadership of the PDP in the State has poorly managed the affairs leading to different factions in the party.
He said his political ideology was anchored on unity, inclusiveness, fairness and justice and “if those are not found in the party then there is no reason to be in that camp.”
Gwamna, who is also the Sardauna of Gombe, said the PDP cannot manage Gombe State with the crop of leadership it has that he alleged prioritises personal interest against collective interest.
“In politics, internal democracy is very key and if you cannot find that playing out, then practicing democracy on a larger platform such as governing the state becomes a big issue.”
Gwamna said the APC is more organised in Gombe than any party and has managed its affairs in a more family-like manner.
He called on his supporters to mobilise grassroots support across the State to ensure that APC retains Gombe with better voting margin than that of 2019.
Gwamna also said that he has been appointed as Gombe APC Coordinator for the governorship and presidential campaigns in the State.
