LG Autonomy: S/Court’s Ruling ‘ll Boost Grassroots Democracy – CMPA
POLITICS DIGEST- The Centre for Media, Policy, and Accountability, CMPA, has commended the recent landmark ruling by the Supreme Court, reinforcing the autonomy of local government councils.
This decision, delivered by a seven-member panel led by Justice Emmanuel Agim, marks a significant advancement for democracy and governance in Nigeria, the Centre in a release obtained by Politics Digest noted.
Dr. Suleiman Suleiman, Executive Director of CMPA, who signed the statement, observed that, “This judgment aligns with the core principles of federalism by delineating the separation of powers among the federal, state, and local governments.
“By upholding the autonomy of local governments, the Supreme Court has taken a decisive step towards strengthening grassroots democracy and enhancing local governance.
