POLITICS DIGEST- The suspended minister of humanitarian affairs and poverty alleviation, Betta Edu, has spent a night at the office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Abuja.
On Monday, President Bola Tinubu ordered the suspension of Ms. Edu following controversies about illegal financial transactions she authorised in her ministry.
Despite the initial report claiming the minister might be granted bail on Tuesday, a source in the ministry said that Edu was at the office of the anti-graft agency up until 10 p.m., facing interrogation.

The source added that the suspended minister also disclosed to the team of investigators how she illegally moved over N3 billion funds belonging to Nigeria Social Investment Protection Agency,NSIPA, into private bank accounts.
In order to gain sympathy, Edu reportedly claimed she was wrongly advised by close aides to perpetrate the economic fraud.
“She admitted to the EFCC, team that she breached the law and also claimed that she was misled into disbursing the funds to private accounts.
“But the EFCC team found it ridiculous because there was proof that the Accountant General of the Federation warned her against sending money to individual accounts.
“But you know she’s egocentric and always feels untouchable. She never saw the suspension coming.
“Interestingly, there have been recoveries from her, and we expect more mind-boggling revelations from the EFCC soon, because some top shots also benefitted from the loot,” the source added.
