BREAKING: Professor Sagir Abbas Elected BUK Vice Chancellor
POLITICS DIGEST– Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas has emerged winner of the Vice -chancellor’s congregational parley of Bayero University, Kano.
He beats 3 other candidates shortlisted for the top position in the University.
Abbas won 1,026 votes against Adamu Idris Tanko with 416 votes, Professor Dikko with 10 votes and Professor Dalhatu who scored 4 votes.

Prof. Sagir Abbas was born on 22nd April, 1962 at ‘Yan Katifa, K/Madabo, Kano city. He started his BUK career as Assistant Lecturer in 1991. From 1991-2010 he held some positions as follows: Sub-Dean, Faculty of Education 1995 – 1997; Deputy Dean, Faculty of Education 1995 –1998.
He was the acting Dean, Faculty of Education 1998-1999; Director, Development Office 2004-2007 and Acting Head, Department of Education 2006. Before joining the services of BUK, he was a lecturer with the then Kano College of Education, now Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education, in the Department of Mathematics.
Prof. Sagir Abbas was appointed Senior Special Assistant to the former Minister of Education, Professor Ruqayyatu Rufa’i, OON from April 2010 to 11th September, 2013.
Prof. Sagir Abbas was the Director, Directorate of Research, Innovation and Partnerships (DRIP).
