Buhari Seeks Senate Confirmation for 42 Career Ambassadors, Others
POLITICS DIGEST – President Muhammadu Buhari has nominated 42 career officers as ambassadorial nominees for confirmation by the Nigerian Senate.
The names were contained in a letter dated dated May 6, 2020, and read on the floor of the upper legislative chamber by President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, on Tuesday at the beginning of plenary.
The letter reads: “In accordance to section 171 (1),(2)(c) & sub-section (4) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended, I have the honour to forward for confirmation by the Senate, the underlisted 42 names of nominees as Career Ambassadors-Designate. Copies of their Curriculum Vitae are attached herewith.”
The President also said the profiles of the nominees would be forwarded to the Senate.

In another letter dated April 28 to the President of the Senate, Dr Ahmad Lawan, the President requested for the confirmation of Professor Jumai Audi, as Chairman of the Nigerian Law Reform Commission.
Also for confirmation are: Hon. Ebele Bernard Chima, Commissioner, South East; Bassey Dan Abia, Commissioner, South-South; and Hon. Mohammed Ibraheem, Commissioner, South-West.
Another request letter dated May 4 from President Muhammadu Buhari for the confirmation of Diana Okonta (South-South); and Ya’ana Talib Yaro (North-East) as Non-Executive Directors of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) was also read by the Senate President at plenary Tuesday.
