BUK Alumni Moots Construction of Students’ Hostel
POLITICS DIGEST – The Class of 1992 Forum of Bayero University Kano, has promised to partner with the university management in building students’ hostel as part of their efforts to improve their alma mater.
The forum chairman, Muhammad Dahiru Sa’ad, stated this on Saturday, during the fourth annual general meeting of the forum held at the Conference Hall of Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano.
He said, the issue arises following a recommendation of one of their members, Engr. Rakiya Abubakar.
Sa’ad explained that the initiative will be in form of Public Private Partnership (PPP) between the forum and Bayero University, so as to help mitigate the problem of accommodation faced by students and at the same time, provide a way of generating revenue to the forum.
The chairman said, “We can liaise with them to build the hostel, and, after like 25 years when we must have recouped our money, we can then donate it to the university”
“We will tax ourselves to see that this initiative come to fruition. We will sit down as a group and think about its implementation, and I’m confident that the university will welcome this idea because they know our capabilities”, the chairman added.
On the issue of other achievements of the forum, the chairman said they have been consistently assisting indigent students of the university who couldn’t pay their school fees with one million Naira scholarship annually.

“We were able to visit Murtala Muhammad Specialists Hospital and Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital where we helped settle the bills of patients in critical conditions. We also visited the victims of flood in Jibiya, Katsina state and assisted them”, Muhammad Sa’ad explained.
The forum according to him has also been supporting the families of their deceased colleagues with financial support, as well as other orphanage homes.
The chairman finally called on other alumni classes of the university to emulate them so as to move the university forward.
The meeting, whose this year’s theme was “Leaping into the future challenges after retirement – sharing clues and ideas on the way forward”, brought together various alumni from different faculties and departments across the university who graduated in 1992.
Speaking earlier in the occasion, a lecturer at the Dangote Business School of the University and the lead paper presenter, Dr Adams Adeiza, discussed various ways members of the forum could follow to set up successful businesses.
The paper which focused on starting and managing a successful business to the prospective retirees, urged them to always go for goods and services that create value and help in solving human problems for their businesses to prosper.
Other discussants of the paper include Dr Kabiru Sa’id Sufi of Kano State College of Arts, Science and Remedial Studies, Engr. Rakiya Abubakar, Dokajen Kano and Alhaji Rabi’u Tukur Hassan. They called on other members in their various presentations to fully prepare and plan for life after retirement as it is inevitable.
At the end of the meeting, the participants promised to sustain the forum and make it even stronger by consistently maintaining the annual gathering tradition. The forum also prayed for their deceased members and promised to continue supporting their families.
