Burkina Faso Coup Leader to be Sworn in as Transition President
POLITICS DIGEST – Burkina Faso’s new strongman, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, will be sworn in as transition president on Friday (Oct 21).
The constitutional council announced the resignation of Lieutenant-Colonel Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba on Wednesday (October 19).

Captain Traoré, the coup leader, has been the junta’s leader since September 30, when he deposed Damiba.
Traoré was unanimously named “President of the Transition, Head of State, and Supreme Chief of the National Armed Forces”.
Last month Traore toppled Lieutenant-Colonel Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba.
According to AFP, In its statement on Wednesday, the council said it took note of Damiba’s “resignation”.
Damiba himself had seized power only in January, forcing out Burkina’s last elected president, Roch Marc Christian Kabore.
