Confusion as Kano Govt Replaces Emir Bayero’s Portrait With Sanusi’s
By Ozumi Abdul
The Kano state government on Monday placed the portrait of the 14th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi, in the Coronation Hall of the Government House.
Prior to the development, the popular Hall, which is currently undergoing renovation, had the portraits of Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, and his counterparts in the four emirate councils.
The development revived the rumoured plan to reinstate the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), three years after his unceremonious dethronement.
Recall that former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje dethroned the vocal technocrat in 2020 for alleged insubordination and failure to attend the newly established emirate council meeting.
Sanusi was also accused of working against the sitting government.

Irked by Sanusi’s dethronement, the leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, former Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, vowed to revisit issues involving the removal of Sanusi in office.
Kwankwaso made the comment when the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) won the last election and reclaimed Kano from APC.
Although Governor Abba Yusuf has neither refuted nor confirmed Kwankwaso’s comment, his administration had, on several occasions, described the NNPP government as a continuation of Kwankwaso’s administration.
Meanwhile, the state government said placing Sanusi’s portrait in Coronation Hall depicts the importance of the 14th Emir to the state.
This according to the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sanusi Dawakin-Tofa.
“History of the Coronation Hall is synonymous with the 14th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi, because it was built for his presentation of staff of office when he was crowned to succeed the late Ado Bayero in 2014, during the administration of Kwankwaso.
“So, traditionally, his picture shall remain there forever. Bringing back the picture of the 14th emir is part of the ongoing rehabilitation to give Coronation Hall a facelift,” he said.
