Coronation of the Emir of Katagum By Saleh Bature
POLITICS DIGEST- Saturday, the 12th of November 2022, was a turning point in the history of Katagum emirate in particular and Bauchi state in general. The day marked the historic coronation of the Emir of Katagum, His Royal Highness Alhaji (Dr) Umar Faruk II (OON) as the 12th Emir of Katagum.
This day will be remembered by all friends of Katagum and lovers of the Emir. Dignitaries from far and near converged in Azare to witness the historic ceremony of presentation of staff of office to the royal father. Arguably, the coronation was a life-time gatherings of royalty, feast, colorful display of traditional attire, durbar, traditional dances and songs. It was a period for brisk business to the exited and elated Azare townsfolk. The ceremony was indeed an unprecedented parade of who is who in Nigeria.
The Emir who was visibly overwhelmed by the all-record and unprecedented mammoth crowd of people who came from far afield to witness the Investiture expressed happiness and gratitude over the rare show of love.

Worthy of mention are His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto, the Shehu of Borno, the Emirs of Kano, Zazzau, Gwandu, Bauchi, Misau, Jama’are, Hadeja, Gbong Gwom Jos, and Sarkin Tsatsun Burun from Niger Republic and more than 50 other Emirs and Chiefs.
Born on 25th March 1957; Umar Faruk the II became the Emir of Katagum on 15th December 2017 after the passing away of his father, the 11th Emir of Katagum, Sarki Muhammadu Kabir. The newly crowned Emir had reached the pinnacle of his career as a Permanent Secretary in the Federal civil service before Allah in His infinite mercy made him the Emir.
His Royal Highness, the Emir of Katagum is a great example of what Royalty should be. He is loved and highly revered by his people for his altruism and concern over their problems, progress, and development of the entire emirate. Excellent deeds, they say, equally deserve the most excellent rewards”. On coronation day, the people of Katagum indeed proved that they hold their Emir very close to their hearts. Sarki is the symbol and epitome of good leadership, the knot that tightens the bond of unity and peaceful coexistence among the people.
We beseech Allah, the supreme and all-powerful Lord to prolong the life of the Emir and give peace to his reign.
