Court Interim Injunction Won’t Affect New Emirates, Kano Govt Insists
POLITICS DIGEST – Kano State government has reacted to the interim injunction served by a Kano High Court stopping Governor Abdullahi Ganduje from taking over the powers of the kingmakers of Kano Emirate as contained in the Kano State Emirates Council Law, 2019.
Recall that the kingmakers, bearing titles of Madaki, Makama, Sarkin Dawaki Maituta and Sarkin Bai, had last week approached the court seeking an interim injunction restraining Governor Ganduje from taking away the traditional functions and powers of the kingmakers under the “purported Kano State Emirates Council Law 2019” pending the hearing of motion on notice.

The second interim order sought by the kingmakers was for the court to restrain Ganduje from taking any steps or doing anything in any form whatsoever to remove, depose, transfer the Emir of Kano without due consultation with them.
The court presided over by Justice A.T. Badamasi on Tuesday granted the interim injunction restraining Ganduje from taking away the traditional functions and powers of the kingmakers.
Justice Badamasi, however, refused to grant the second order.
In a statement on Wednesday, the state Commissioner for Information, Muhammad Garba stated that the court order does not affect the existence of the new Emirates.
He said the propaganda is the evil machination of those opposed to the creation of the new Emirates and will be disappointed when the court rules on a substantive judgement.
The statement further assured that the ruling would be in favour of the Kano state government considering that due process was followed in the exercise.
The commissioner urged people in the state to remain calm and be law-abiding while the court decides.
