Court Jails Professor For manipulating 2019 election results for APC
POLITICS DIGEST – Peter Ogban, a professor of soil science at the University of Calabar, was sentenced to three years in prison by an Akwa Ibom high court for tampering with election results. Mr Ogban served as the returning officer in the 2019 senatorial election in Akwa Ibom North-West.

Mr Peter is being prosecuted by the Independent National Electoral Commission investigated (INEC). The court found him guilty of tampering with election results in order to benefit the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The News Digest reports that Godswill Akpabio, the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, was the APC candidate in the election. He was seeking a return to the Senate after he defected from the PDP. The PDP’s candidate, Chris Ekpenyong, a former deputy governor in Akwa Ibom State, defeated Mr Akpabio in the election which was gripped by pockets of violence.
