COVID-19: KEDCO Begins Distribution of Palliatives to Residents of Kano, Katsina Jigawa
POLITICS DIGEST – As part of its contribution to cushion the effect of coronavirus lockdown, the management of Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has begun distribution of palliatives to Kano, Katsina and Jigawa states.
The state governments are expected to further distribute the items to residents of their respective states.
The DisCo in a statement on Thursday by its head of Corporate Communications, Ibrahim Sani Shawai said the intervention has started with Kano State by presenting food items and some cash to the state government.
KEDCO added that on Friday, 22nd May, it shall be extending the same gesture to Katsina state government on Friday, 22nd May, 2020, while Jigawa state package is to follow immediately after Sallah celebration.

“The palliatives are KEDCO’s way of assisting the governments of these states in view of the need for a collective approach towards defeating the virus”, the statement added.
In his message, KEDCO Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Jamil Isyaku Gwamna, said no single government or nation could withstand the impact of the coronavirus without supports.
He said: “Coronavirus pandemic is affecting everyone and as such everyone needs to come together to fight it through giving while adhering to protective measures too.
Dr Gwamna then called on well-meaning Nigerians to assist people while also advocating for more sensitisation on safety measures.
The items presented to the Kano state government include 1,500 bags of 10kg Rice, 1,500 gallons of 4 litres of groundnut oil and a bank draft cheque of N2million.
Kano state so far has over 700 confirmed cases of COVID-19, making it the second most affected state in the country.
