In Defence of Governor Dikko Radda, By Adnan Mukhtar
Last week, I came across a short video of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, where he described certificates as useless. Where I got it wrong as a Public Relations Practitioner was my failure to look for the full video and watch before making a conclusion. unfortunately, I got carried by the trend and joined the people who criticised the governor for that statement.
A few minutes for expressing that on my verified Facebook page, another video was sent to me by one of the governor’s close associate Alhaji Garzali Hamza asking me to watch it and make my conclusion. That was how I became aware that the governor didn’t condemn degree and certificate holders but was making emphasis on other ways we can get life better without a government job.
Many people were amazed that governor Radda who happened to be a PhD holder was the same person condemning certificates but people with good foresight would understand the governor’s point that civil service is not a place to make money. Looking at the economic condition in the country, civil servants are struggling with how to survive, giving reference to an indomie cook.
Governor Radda, in the same video, was seen praising degree holders and education in particular.
“You can’t compare an educated person or a degree holder with an ignorant person, even if an educated person will be poor, he will still be better than someone who is not educated, even if he is going to beg, he will do that with a better strategy, good English than the person who will come telling you that his wife has given birth.

There is a difference. Education, no matter what you studied, has its impact. Now, if a kidnapper goes to the village and give 2000 naira to a degree holder to provide him with information, I’m sure he will not but someone who is not educated will collect it and give the necessary information, he doesn’t care with the number of people that will be killed”.
From my understanding, the governor was trying to encourage people to work hard and stop relying on the government for a job. Many people who are entrepreneurial are doing better, but mischief makers went ahead to misquote him by sharing a part of the video to tarnish the governor’s image on the media.
These are the same people who failed to tell us the good sides of the governor. He is one of the best governors that performed well in his one year in office. He is so far better than my governor who has make governance an avenue for personal vendetta, demolishing properties worth billions of naira, the Murja brouhaha, dethronement of an Emir to which we are witness of the presence of two emirs in Kano, no road commissioning, state universities strike etc are part of Governor Yusuf one year achievement at a time that governor Radda was busy commissioning a first class Kidney Dialysis Centre, Medical Doctors in my state were threatening to go on strike.
At a time governor Radda was busy discussing and proferring solutions to issues, governor Yusuf was busy telling the world that he will report a Federal High Court Judge to Nigerian Governors Forum instead of the National Judicial Council. What an embrassment.
Mischief makers got it wrong this time, I just hope that Radda will continue with the good governance he is giving to his people and will not be distracted by the action of this so called mischief makers.
