2023: Deputy Speaker, Idris Wase, Urges Nigerians to Ignore Religion and Choose Competence
By Ozumi Abdul
The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Idris Wase, has enjoined Nigerians to downplay religious sentiments and concentrate on the competence the duo of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Senator Kashim Shettima can bring into governance.
Wase said he supported the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s all Muslim ticket based on the capacity of the individuals, adding that the Tinubu-Shettima Presidency is best for Nigeria.
The Deputy Speaker stated this in Abuja on Thursday evening while hosting a Tinubu support group.
He argued that none of the candidates of the other political parties had the qualities and capacity of Tinubu, describing the former governor of Lagos State as “a leader par excellence, who has succeeded in building people, bridges, reputation and friendships across the country”.

“There are an array of ministers and chief executives who were the students of his school of thought and political alignments. No politician in this country can match his contribution and what he has done. He is the first to demonstrate that and we have a lot to showcase. When the time comes we will speak out,” Wase added.
He further assured the group of his commitment and support to actualising the Tinubu-Shettima presidency and the victory of the APC in 2023.
“We have a Muslim-Muslim (situation) here in the House of Reps as Speaker and Deputy Speaker. I don’t know how many people we have converted if it is about religion. It is about delivering the dividends of democracy to the people. We have had a Christian-Christian Senate President and Deputy Senate President for eight good years in the National Assembly. So, some of these emotions and sentiments being expressed are done by those who want to gain cheap access to power and other things, and confuse the society,” he said.
