Don’t Let the Flies Ruin the Mango: Resolving the Kano Emirship Dispute
By Nura Usman
The crisis surrounding the emirship in Kano State, the commercial hub of Northern Nigeria is one that demands careful attention and resolution. Despite not being from Kano State I holds Kano close to my heart as a northerner. This is because whatever happens in Kano positively or otherwise have the potential of affecting not only the state but also the entire region. Kano is what Lagos is to South West and what Rivers is to South South.
The root of this crisis lies in the appointment and deposition of Emirs, a delicate matter that should be handled with the utmost sensitivity and respect for the people’s heritage and traditions. Granted that Ganduje made a terrible mistake regarding the Kano Emirate issue, but the vengence taken by the Abba Kabir’s government appears more problemtic.
The crisis over the Emirship in Kano has been marred by accusations of political influence and meddling, with some claiming that external powers are base on political parties affiliations supporting one side or the other in the struggle have made the crisis worse. This has only served to further inflame tensions and divide the people, making it all the more imperative for His Excellency, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to restrategize and pursue a peaceful and amicable resolution.
Governor Abba must be urged to understand that sacrificing personal interests or political gain for the greater good would be a noble and courageous act, one that would demonstrate true leadership and statesmanship in him for years to come in Kano’s history

One such solution could be to appoint a neutral person to the position of Emir, a figure who is not aligned with either side and who can be trusted to act in the best interests of Kano and its people. Such an appointment would send a powerful message of unity and reconciliation to the people of Kano and beyond. It would show that the Governor is willing to put aside political considerations and personal ambitions for the sake of peace and stability, earning him the respect and admiration of all those who care about the future of Kano.
It is also important to acknowledge that, while the Governor holds considerable power in this situation, he is not acting in isolation. He must take into account the influence of other stakeholders, including the powers above particulary his political godfather, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso who may have taken a side in this dispute especially with Sanusi.
As being insinuated with strong indications that powers from above have taken a side in the tussles which was why the other side are able to sustain the fight against you being the custodian of the thrown and Chief Security officer of the state. As the saying goes we leave to fight another day, may I suggest that why not sacrificing SLS just like he did in reintroducing other emirates according to the wishes of the people. By this it will enable him to also request they step aside their insistance on Aminu Ado Bayero to allow him appoint a neutral person since Kano has other royal house or heir apparent to the throne
I have the believe that this arrangement will make everyone sheath their swords and allow peace to rain in the commercial capital of the North.
Your Excellency Sir I will want you to see Kano above anyone and any interest or powers you have which at worst will be history in the next 7 years and you shall be remember for whatever you superintend now while in power, I pray you are remembered as someone who let go his executive powers even while at advantage to enforce it.
Your Excellency Sir, it is in my prayers that Allah guide you in making the right decision to get Kano back to it best. Amiin
