El-Rufai defies court order, allocate Durbar Hotel land to govt agencies
Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State has disrespected a court order restraining him from taking over Durbar Hotel owned by the Abacha family in Kaduna state.
The governor had used his power to demolish the property in December 2020.
Dissatisfied with the governor’s action, the Abacha family rushed to a High Court before Justice H.A.L Bologun in which he stopped the governor from taking over the property.
In March 2023, the court issued an order of interim injunction restraining the governor and the government of the state from taking over, developing or tempering with the property at 14A Sokoto Road pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.
Despite the order by Justice Bologun, the governor went ahead to allocate some part of the property to the Nigerian Air Force, Federal Road Safety Commission, and other agencies.

According to some sources, the governor wanted to claim that the property overrides pubic interest as he has the power to do so.
The decision by the governor to allocate the land to the aforementioned agencies came after a case was filed at the court of law and an order was given.
It appears Gov El’Rufai has been trailing the durbar hotel from his days at the B.P.E. we have it on credible account backed by evidence that infact he tried to revoke the sale of durbar Hotel when he was at the helm of affairs at the B.P.E. and also tried to revoke the Durbar Hotel land in Abuja when he was the F.C T minister and the Abacha family were only able to win the case at the Supreme Court in 2017.
