The section of the amended Electoral Act has been a source of tension between the Executive and the lawmakers who have repeatedly rebuffed President Muhammadu Buhari’s plea to delete the provision.
The section reads: “No political appointee at any level shall be a voting delegate or be voted for at the convention or congress of any political party for the purpose of the nomination of candidates for any election.”
The lower legislative chamber passed the resolution during a plenary session on Wednesday.
The House also resolved to appeal the judgment of a Federal High Court Umahia, which nullified the amendment and empowered Malami to delete it.
