FCT Police Recover Stolen SUV After Fierce Gun Battle with Robbers

In a daring late-night operation, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has successfully recovered a stolen vehicle and a firearm after a high-speed chase and gun battle with armed carjackers.
According to the statement released by the Police Public Relation Officer, Abuja command, SP. Josephine Adeh on Friday, the incident, which unfolded on Thursday, highlighted the swift action and bravery of law enforcement in Abuja.
The statement read in part: “The ordeal began around 8:00 PM when Engr. Kemi Halimat Adidiru and her driver were ambushed by six armed men under a pedestrian bridge along Alieta Road in Lugbe. The robbers forcefully dragged them out of their black Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, leaving them stranded as the suspects sped off with the vehicle and personal belongings, including an international passport and cash.

“A vigilant good Samaritan promptly reported the incident to the FCT Police Command Control Room, providing critical details about the stolen car and the suspects’ escape route. Acting on the tip, the police launched a coordinated response, mobilizing patrol teams and activating strategic checkpoints across the city.
“At about 11:35 PM, officers stationed at Dantata Bridge along Galadimawa Road spotted the stolen SUV. The suspects, realizing they had been identified, attempted to evade capture by accelerating past the checkpoint, prompting an intense high-speed chase towards Airport Junction. The confrontation escalated when the suspects opened fire on the pursuing officers.
“The police, demonstrating superior tactics and firepower, forced the suspects to abandon the vehicle and a firearm before fleeing into the surrounding bushes. No injuries were reported during the exchange, and the stolen vehicle was recovered along with all valuables. The items, including Engr. Adidiru’s international passport, were returned to her, and she expressed heartfelt gratitude for the police’s professionalism and swift action.”
Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police for the FCT, CP Olatunji Disu, praised the courage of his officers and the timely intervention of the anonymous witness.
