2023: Femi Kuti Hits ‘Obidients’, Calls them “Zombies”
By Ozumi Abdul
Femi Kuti, a son of Afrobeat Legend, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, has described the supporters of Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate for the 2023 election, Peter Obi, also known as “Obidients,” as zombies, according to Society Gazette.
Zombie was the title of a studio album released in 1976 by his late father during his heydays, when he jokingly portrayed Nigerian soldiers as a bunch of individuals who just follow commands and are not capable or permitted to have any independent mind or thought.

The song, which went on to be one of Fela’s greatest hits, followed a raid on his residence in Lagos at the time.
“You know what obedience means? Stand up, sit down, sit there — zombie,” he said during a performance at the Shrine Thursday night in Lagos, wondering why Mr Obi’s popularity has grown rapidly in recent months.
“How can you be Obidient in this chaos? I am not Obidient. Tell me, at 60, why am I Obidient? You said I should be Obidient, sit down, be peaceful”.
Are you all okay in this country?”, he asked.
Peter Obi’s campaign runs on the energy of some young Nigerians, particularly from the southern parts of the country who describe themselves as “Obidient” followers on social media.
