Five De-registered Political Parties to Merge With SDP
POLITICS DIGEST – No fewer than five of the 74 de-registered political parties have disclosed their intention to merge with the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Chief of Staff to the National Chairman, Ambassador Rufus Aiyenigba in a statement on Sunday said the affected parties have already commenced talks with the party in expression of their willingness to collapse their structures across the county into the SDP.
Although the political parties in question were not mentioned, the statement noted that “those five National Chairmen, acting on the mandate of their respective political parties, have held series of meetings with the SDP and, as a result of the fruitful discussions, the on-going firming up of the processes and the mutually rewarding agreements that have been reached with each of the political parties, arrangements are now in top gear to formalize the acceptance and dissolving of those five political parties into the SDP in a matter of days from now.”

The statement continued, “It is gratifying that our great party, the SDP, enjoys high reckoning in the eyes of many Nigerians, going by the remarks of one of the National Chairmen on the talks, that the decision to adopt the SDP as their preferred political party of choice was based on the its national outlook and spread, discipline, huge membership-base, well-entrenched and functional structures across the county as well as its people-oriented ideology and programs which center on social justice, the promotion of citizens’ well-being, integration and the building of a great country that works for all irrespective of political leanings, ethnic background, religious persuasion or social status.
The statement quoted the former Education minister and chairman of the party, Tunde Adeniran, as assuring the five political parties and all their members, “of integration and a level playing ground for them to operate.”
“He also called on the remaining de-registered political parties to come to the SDP and work together towards recreating and rebuilding Nigeria our dear country.
The statement further said, “Going by the foregoing positive development, when the processes are completed and formalized and, hopefully very soon, the SDP, which is already being seen as the true bearer of the hopes and aspirations of many Nigerians across the divide – citizens who obviously have lost confidence in what they presently have in their hands, will certainly transform to a mega political party and a major force ahead of the next general elections in 2023.”
