Group appeals to APC Caretaker Committee to conduct National Convention in February
POLITICS DIGEST- The National Progressives Hub has appealed to the Mai Mala Buni led caretaker Committee of the All Progressives Congress to conduct the National Convention of the Party in February.
This is contained in a statement by group acting National Secretary Muhammad T Shehu and sent to POLITICS DIGEST.
Shehu who commended the effort of the Caretaker Committee of uniting the party and addressing some of its challenges noted that the need to put in place elected leaders that will pilot the affairs of the party ahead of 2023 general election is sacrosanct.
The statement which read in parts:
“The progress of a nation, to a large extent, hinges on the trustworthiness of its political system. When the whirlwind of APC, in 2015, swept across the nation to put an end to impunity, the hopes of common Nigerians came alive. It is hope that fuels man’s passionate search for a better world. As a party, we should not squash that hope. It is on this premise that the National Progressives Hub, a registered APC support group, appeals to the Buni-led Caretaker Committee to conduct the National Convention slated for February, 2022.
We immensely appreciate the achievements of the committee, their remarkable ability in piloting the affairs of the party and the reconciliatory mechanism put in place to settle all aggrieved members of our great party.

Nonetheless, the need to put in place, an elected National Working Committee, is sacrosanct. An NWC sets the party on the right path to greater achievement, clears the air on covert deals and presents us in the eyes of our nation, as a serious party, committed to the tenets of democracy and national progress.
Our party constitution is clear on the processes for the election of a National Working Committee. Why delay it? As a support group, we believe in the supremacy of our party constitution, being an instrument that guarantees justice, fairness and progress. We thus call on the party leadership to strictly adhere to the party constitution. We can do this, thus setting an example for other political parties to follow.
The credibility, transperancy and relevance of our party leaders lie in the political will to do what needs to be done in the interest of all, as opposed to that of a minority, rooting for its own selfish interests. Our national leadership promised this convention. Stick to the promise!
The major task before the Caretaker Committee is the conduct of the National Convention. This must be pursued with all vigour and seriousness.
We appeal to the members of the Buni-led Caretaker Committee to resist further temptation to postpone the national convention.
It is our hope and belief that the Caretaker Committee will not employ any delay tactics that will result to further delay of the National Convention, already slated for 5th February, 2022.
The six months mandate of the caretaker committe has extended to almost one and a half year. Let’s do the needful. Let’s do the right thing. Let’s show the world that we are serious. Let’s stick to the right thing. We are progressive, let’s progress to the national convention slated for February, 2022”.
