Group Wants CBN Governor, Emiefele, to Resign over Economic Downturn
POLITICS DIGEST – The Nigerian Youth Initiative for Good Governance (NYIGG) has called for the voluntary resignation of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele.
The group in a statement made available to pressmen on Monday in Abuja accused the CBN Governor of sabotaging the economy of the country by enriching some few individuals at the expense of the majority.
The Convener and National Coordinator of the group, Engr S. O Adeyemi Lukman, said Emefiele’s incompetence is also the reason the naira has been on a free fall for months.

The statement reads in part: “The current state of our nose-diving economy call for the concern of all. The leadership of Nigerian Youth Initiative for Good Governance (NYIGG) hereby calls for immediate removal or resignation of Mr. Godwin Emefiele, the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, for gross incompetence and due to his inability to save the Nigerian economy from further collapse.
“His mishandling of the Anchor Borrowers’ Programme is a case of gross abuse of public office and we will take this up legally with him in due course with proofs.”
The group accused the CBN boss of being behind the failure of the Anchor Borrowers’ Programme and the increase in the price of rice as well as other staple foods.
He continued: “How can a man who claims to be a renowned economist on inauguration as CBN Governor meet the Naira exchange rate at N155 to a dollar and as at today it is N570 to a dollar? This shows that his monetary policies are nothing to write home about.”
