Kaduna state governor, Nasir El-rufai, has disclosed that at least 387 lives were lost in Zangon Kataf and Kauru Local Government Areas in the state in two years.
The governor made the statement on Wednesday while decrying the renewed attacks and killings in the two local government areas.
El-rufai called on communities to seek justice and protection through acceptable legal ways and avoid resorting to self help.
The Commissioner for Internal Security, Samuel Aruwan, represented the governor at an Emergency Security Meeting involving the religious, community, and traditional leaders at the place of the Agwatyap, Atak Njei, in Zango Kataf.

He said: “We are here on behalf of the governor following the renewed killings in the Kauru and Zangon Kataf local government areas. It is a big setback but we will not relent.”
“For instance in 2020, 114 citizens were killed in Zangon Kataf and 28 in Kauru, and in 2021, 186 were killed in Zangon Kataf and 59 in Kauru; if you put the figures together, we lost 387 persons in these two councils. In 2021, 100 citizens suffered gunshot injuries in the two councils – 77 in Zangon Kataf and 23 in Kauru, aside from the destruction of houses, farmlands, and cattle killed and the collapse of the rural economy affecting all the communities,” he lamented.
He described the incessant killings as unjustifiable and urged people to create an environment for everyone to thrive without fear of attacks.
At the meeting, the Member representing Zango Katat/Jaba Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Amoz Magaji, urged the people to be law-abiding, promising to join in the campaign for peace in the two areas.
