The Kano Internal Revenue Service has recently released a template for the tax clearance fees for three years starting from 2019 to 2021 in the state fixing 3,500,000.00 for governorship aspirants, 2,000,000 for deputy governor, 1,399,000.00 for Senators, 727, 520,000 for House of Representatives and 360,000 naira for House of Assembly.
Majority of the aspirants are opting for neighbouring states like Jigawa and Katsina for the tax clearance alleging that the fees are too exorbitant for them to afford.
“It will not cost you more than 100k in Jigawa and Katsina for a State House of Assembly aspirant but in Kano you have to pay more than 300k which is not affordable” said an aspirant who pleaded anonymity.
