Immigration Clears 204,332 Passport Backlog in Three Weeks
By Nafisat Bello
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has cleared about 204,332 Passport application backlog following the two-week deadline given to them by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in September 7.
The Service had a backlog of 204,332 passports in production before the Minister was sworn-in some weeks ago.
On resumption of office after his inauguration, the Minister expressed sadness over the delay in the issuance of passports and the harrowing experience of Nigerians home and abroad when he paid a visit to the Headquarters of the NIS.

He said he had been following developments in the Service on the issue and urged the Service to change the narrative, insisting that under his watch, Nigerians would not suffer to obtain their travel documents.
He therefore gave a marching order to the management of the Service to clear the entire backlog in a matter of weeks.
The Immigration spokesman, Dr Dotun, confirmed to our correspondent on phone that the entire backlog has been cleared, adding that the era of backlog is over.
“I really don’t want to talk about the numbers, but I will say that we have cleared all the backlogs.
“I cannot mention the exact numbers, because we keep clearing everyday.
But I can say without mincing words that the era of backlogs is over,” he said.
