Insecurity: Group Calls for Caution over Plot to Impeach Buhari
By Ozumi Abdul
The Non State Actors Consultative Forum (NOSACOF) has called for caution over the plot to impeach President Muhammadu Buhari by federal lawmakers of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), backed by few of their ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) colleagues.
The federal legislators, last week gave Buhari a six-week ultimatum to tackle the security challenges facing the country, or be removed from office.
But NOSACOF, arising from a press conference in Kano State, declared that it is pertinent for it to also lend its voice in defence of Nigeria’s democracy and fragile unity.
The group, in a statement, jointly signed by Abdulrazaq Alkali and Ernest Bako, observed that the myriad of socio-economic and security challenges bedeviling the country, have defied every possible solution.

NOSACOF, pointed out that Nigeria’s socio-economic problems have in recent times been worsened by widespread poverty, together with Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorism, among other disturbing issues.
“Inflation, in the country, has been on a steady rise, while many citizens are finding it extremely difficult to survive,” it said.
While condemning the move to remove Buhari, the group, said the PDP and some APC Senators behind the impeachment plot should rather worry about how their incompetence has contributed to worsening Nigeria’s economic and security situation, instead of tinkering with the idea of ousting Mr. President.
“It will be unfair for the National Assembly to lay the entire blame of insecurity on Mr. President. The issue of insecurity predates Buhari’s presidency. Hence, we, as a group, wish to advise the aggrieved Senators to channel their energy and time to making quality legislations that will bring permanent solutions to Nigeria’s insecurity,” the group said.
