Interim Government: VP-elect, Shettima, Visits Babangida, Abdulsalami in Minna
POLITICS DIGEST – Barely 24 hours after the Department of State Services (DSS) raised alarm that some entrenched political interests are actively working to scuttle the May 29 transition and institute the unconstitutional Interim National Government (ING), the Vice President-elect, Senator Kashim Shettima, has paid a visit to two former Heads of State in Minna, the Niger state capital.
Shettima visited Generals Ibrahim Babangida and Abdulsalami Abubakar (both retired) on Thursday as part of measures to secure their support for a smooth transition.

While the details of the meetings were not revealed, POLITICS DIGEST gathered from authoritative sources close to the Minna meetings that the meetings were not unconnected with the massive threat by some unnamed politicians who lost out during the February 25 presidential election to scuttle the inauguration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Shettima using illegal means.
Shettima in a Facebook update on Thursday night said the elder statesmen were needed because of their experience and their words of wisdom

“In two separate visits today, I paid courtesy call on two former Heads of State and illustrious sons of Nigeria, Gen. Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida and Gen. Abdussalami Abubakar in their residences in Minna, Niger State.
“I also paid homepage on the Emir of Minna HRH. Dr. Umar Farouq Bahago in his palace.
“These elder statesmen are Nigeria’s Stakeholders and as such, they are beacons of hope and we will continue to tap from their wealth of experience. They have a lot to offer the nation. We will continue to reach out to them for their advice, input and perspectives on issues confronting us as a nation.”
