Interior Minister Orders Investigation into Correctional Service Amidst Allegations Involving Bobrisky

By Kabir Akintayo

Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, has ordered an urgent investigation into allegations of bribery within the Nigerian Correctional Service.

This directive follows accusations raised by social activist, Martins Otse, also known as Verydarkman, against popular cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky.

On Tuesday evening, Verydarkman released a leaked audio clip purported to feature Bobrisky in a conversation with an unidentified individual.

In the recording, Bobrisky allegedly claimed that his “godfather” intervened to prevent him from serving a six-month sentence in a Custodial Centre after being convicted of mutilating the Nigerian currency, the Naira.

The audio also contains allegations that high-ranking officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) demanded a N15 million bribe to drop money laundering charges against Bobrisky.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Minister’s Special Assistant on Media, Babatunde Alao, Dr. Tunji-Ojo condemned the alleged actions and affirmed a zero-tolerance policy towards misconduct, corruption, and unprofessional behavior in all paramilitary services under the Ministry’s oversight.

“The Ministry upholds the core values of integrity, transparency, and accountability, and we will not tolerate any form of compromise. We are committed to rooting out corruption and ensuring that those responsible face the full consequences of their actions,” the Minister stated.

To ensure a thorough investigation, the Minister has established a special investigative panel led by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.

The panel is tasked with conducting a comprehensive inquiry and submitting its findings promptly.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo reassured the public that the investigation will be conducted with utmost rigor, transparency, and impartiality, and that any personnel found guilty will face appropriate disciplinary measures.
