By Ozumi Abdul
POLITICS DIGEST – The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, is flying out of the country to Europe as Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike, intensifies call for his resignation.
Ayu has handed over to the Deputy Chairman (North), Iliya Damagun, who will henceforth run the party as Acting Chairman.
This is according to a statement issued by the Special Adviser on Media and Communications to Ayu, Simon Imobo-Tswam, on Tuesday.

The statement read: “The PDP National Chairman, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, will leave Nigeria for Europe tomorrow (Wednesday).
“Ayu will be out of the country for about two weeks. While away, the Deputy Chairman (North), Iliya Damagun, will act in his place.
“Already, the National Chairman has communicated the handover to the Independent National Electoral Commission.
He is expected back at month-end.”
Governor Wike and his camp within the PDP have been calling for Ayu’s resignation in line with the alleged promise he made to party men that if a northerner emerges as presidential candidate, he would resign.
Ayu has however recently said he won’t quit, saying the likes of Wike who are calling for his head are children who were not there when the party was formed.
