Kano Emirate Tussle: Court of Appeal To Reconstitute Panel
A panel of the court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has withdrawn from the hearing of an appeal emanating from decisions of the Federal High Court, Kano and Kano State High Court on the state’s emirate tussle.
Justice Hamma Akawu- Barka who led the three-man panel announced on Thursday that the panel will not continue to hear the appeal as a new panel will be constituted to hear the matter.
The pending appeals are filed by the Kano State government and the attorney general, Kano State House of Assembly and the Speaker as well as an interlocutory appeal filed by Emir Aminu Ado Bayero
The appellants are challenging the decision of Justice Abdullahi Liman, who set aside steps taken in pursuance of the Kano Emirates Council Law (repeal) 2024 and ordered parties to maintain “status quo ante” pending hearing and determination of a suit filed by Aminu Babba Dan-agundi,Sarkin Dawaki.
POLITICS DIGEST exclusively gathered that a former member of the House of Representatives and a District met with some of the panel members to influence the judgement at Bristol Palace Hotel in Kano.

Another meeting was held at Prince Hotel over the same matter but the information got leaked from the former member.
After a party to the suit learnt about that, the matter was reported and the panel members were ordered to withdraw from hearing the appeal while a new panel would be constituted in due course.
The Kano Emirate Tussle has been lingering for 3 months now since the reinstatement of Muhammadu Sanusi II as Emir by the state government.
The tussle is a battle of two forces, while the state government is backing Sanusi, Aminu Babba Danagundi is backing Aminu Ado Bayero and is the first plantiff in the case.
The suit to challenge the dethronement of Bayero was filed by Aminu Babba Dan-agundi, one of the most influential District heads in the Kano Emirate.
Danagundi was said to be well connected across the country. It is believed that he is one of the District Head in control of a populous local government in Kano.
Emir Aminu Ado Bayero is also yielding his influence as an Emir who is highly respected by the people. It was said that the respect that he accord to individuals and dignitaries including that of his father Emir Ado Bayero is helping him in the battle.
