Kano Guber Poll: Ganduje, Shekarau in Closed-door Meeting
By Adnan Mukhtar
Barely a week to the much anticipated gubernatorial election in Kano state, Governor Abdullahi Ganduje has held a closed-door meeting with one of his long-term rivals, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau.
Ahead of the election scheduled for next Saturday, Ganduje is supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Nasir Gawuna, while Shekarau, who is also a former governor is now a chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
The meeting is also coming a week after a mutual rival of the duo, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, who is the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), defeated both the APC and PDP massively in the February 25 presidential and National Assembly elections.

Governor Ganduje and Senator Shekarau met on Friday at the funeral prayer of a renowned businessman and contractor, Alhaji Sani Dahiru Yakasai.
The governor then decided to accompany Shekarau to his house where they held the meeting behind closed doors.
It would be recalled that the Supreme Court had affirmed the candidature of Mohammed Sadiq Wali as the gubernatorial candidate of the PDP but sources close to Senator Shekarau told POLITICS DIGEST that majority of his supporters are not willing to support Wali and may opt for Gawuna who is the APC candidate.
While details of the meeting are yet to be made public, the discussion may not be unconnected to plans by Ganduje and Shekarau to forge a common front against formidable mutual rivals like Kwankwaso, whose party’s candidate is Abba Kabir Yusuf (Gida Gida), and also Wali.
Details later.
