Kanwan Katsina Seeks Additional Radio Stations in Katsina
The Kanwan Katsina and District Head of Ketare in Katsina state, Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara has called on the state government to establish radio stations in the three senatorial zones the state.
The stations, according to him, should be sited in Katsina, Daura and Funtua respectively.
He made the call while delivering a goodwill message as the royal father of the day at the 2024 World Radio Day celebrations organized by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Katsina State Council and held in Katsina.
The monarch explained that establishing the three state owned FM stations will go a long way in generating revenue to the state, create employment opportunities and will provide access wider reach of government policies and programs to the people at the grassroots.

The District Head, who is also a retired comptroller of Customs congratulated the NUJ Katsina State Council for joining the rest of the world to celebrate this year’s day with the theme “Radio and Democracy”.
Alhaji Usman Kankara who doubles as the patron of the union also called for training and retraining for working journalists in the state and improved welfare to boost their capacity.
Similarly, the traditional ruler used the occasion to commend the efforts of Governor Dikko Radda led administration in the state for establishing the Katsina Watch Corp who were deployed to the seven frontline Local Government areas battling insecurity. He also called on the government to consolidate on the security gains and not to relent on its efforts as it has been yielding positive result.
Highlights of the event include paper presentation by members of the academia on the importance of radio and presentation of awards to some outstanding radio personalities in the state.
