KEDCO to Accelerate Meter Deployment in Kano, Katsina, Jigawa

POLITICS DIGEST – The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has tasked the five meter vendors saddled with the responsibilities of metering customers in its franchise states of Kano, Katsina and Jigawa States to accelerate the effort.
The metering scheme known as Meter Asset Providers (MAP), according to them should be fast tracked to all their customers in order to end estimated billing system within the shortest possible time.
KEDCO had already contracted five meter vendors to help accelerate the installation across the three states. The companies are Mojec International, Cresthill Engineering ltd, Armesse consulting ltd, Momas Electricity Meters and Meron Nig ltd.
In a statement made available to newsmen on Friday by the company’s head of Corporate Communications, Ibrahim Sani Shawai, KEDCO noted that, “The decision to call for such urgent measures was borne out of the desire of the company to ensure that issues relating to billing system was put to rest as soon as possible, adding that the satisfaction and happiness of all our customers across board is one of the top priority of KEDCO.
“The Management maintained that the MAP scheme had been on-going in its franchise areas but it now wants the process fast-tracked to ensure that all customers are given their demands in line with the directive by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

“All customers who meet the requirements are metered within the stipulated period and without any delays. It is their right to regulate and determine their unit of consumption as well as what to pay based on what they use.
“Since we are always exposed to whatever will make our customers happy, we have directed the vendors to strengthen capacity in meter deployment and installations in all our franchise states. We have also given them a monthly target in terms of deployment and installation of meters.
Also, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of KEDCO, Dr Jamil Isyaku Gwamna, said the metering system had come to stay and everyone must embrace it in the overall interest of the power sector in Kano, Katsina and Jigawa States.
`He said, “We are very much concerned about the need to speedily get all our customers metered and in doing that we have taken serous move in that regard to see to it that no one is left behind. The customer-centric approach of KEDCO to business is something that we value and will continue to prioritize in the interest of customers; after all our happiness is determined by how happy and satisfied our customers are.’’

While calling on customers to embrace the new metering scheme by cooperating with the vendors in ensuring that complaints on estimated billing are eliminated from KEDCO franchise area, the Kano DisCo Boss also reassured that the move would bring the needed satisfaction to every customer in the States.
