KEDCO Cautions Customers Against Sabotage, Meter-Bypass, Illegal Connection
POLITICS DIGEST – The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has cautioned against sabotaging its efforts in ensuring customers’ satisfaction in Kano, Katsina and Jigawa states.
The company stated this in a statement on Monday by its head of Corporate Communications, Ibrahim Sani Shawai.
The Management maintained that since the lockdown that led to the closure of some companies and its subsequent power supply to mostly residential areas, KEDCO has observed some illegalities in meter bypass.
According to the Management, such attempt has economic implications on KEDCO; hence the company would no longer tolerate such actions as anyone find will be prosecuted in accordance with the laws of the land.

“80% of our power supply is now to residential areas and this is where we expect our money from. If we supply to households and they fail to pay back for the services they have enjoyed, from where are we expected to get the money to re-invest in purchasing power from the transmission company? And worst still, is the attempt to bypass meter and embark on illegal connections.
“The Management added that since KEDCO had improved supply and making more efforts to sustain such, the only way the customers could support the company was to ensure regular and 100 per cent electricity bills payment”, the Kano DisCo added.
KEDCO therefore urged customers to be more vigilant and report any attempt of meter bypassing in their areas, adding that such offenses could affect supply to genuine customers if technical faults result from such illegal acts.
