KEDCO Goes Digital, Accepts Cashless Transactions Only From January 31
POLITICS DIGEST – Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has revealed that from January 31, its customers shall be required to settle their electricity bills through banks and other online payment platforms.
This according to the company is in line with Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC)’s cashless collection directive, which stops electricity distribution companies from accepting cash transactions, starting in February.
KEDCO in a statement on Thursday signed by its head of Corporate Communication, Ibrahim Sani Shawai, said the company will only transact with customers in the industrial categories (D1, D2 and D3) and commercial (C1A, C1B, C2 and C3) via cashless means only
The company added that, “Cash payments for the above categories will no longer be accepted at any of KEDCO’s cash offices in Kano, Katsina and Jigawa States, while payments from all R3 class of Residential customers shall be made into the bank accounts and through Online Channels from March 31, 2020. Consequently KEDCO shall no longer be accepting cash payments from these categories of customers.
“The management said the directive which is targeted at reducing collection losses and leakages will improve revenue assurance and boost the power sector.

“It noted that various electronic and other alternative payment platforms such as Point of Sale (PoS and ATM cards) are available for use by any customer both in urban and rural areas as the case may be. All other websites and online payment platforms will be made available to all customers in line with the dictates of this directive.
“In this regard, the management hereby charges all customers to notify the nearest KEDCO office if any staff requests for cash payments as from 1/2/2020
“The Managing Director/CEO of KEDCO, Dr. Jamil Isyaku Gwamna while giving some hints on the directive, stated that it was in the best interest of customers across board.
“This is a directive and we as a law abiding organisation must adhere to for the good of the power sector. The world is going cashless and the power sector cannot be left out. With the variety of options of payment available through the different online payment platforms, I can tell you that our customers are in for maximum satisfaction and can now make payments at the comfort of their homes.
KEDCO also revealed that is has prepared for the development long ago by upgrading its various online platforms, adding that any customer who wishes to get further details on the policy should meet with any of its Customer Service staff.
The company then appealed to their customers to always pay their bills accordingly and urged them to embrace the policy due to its imperative in contemporary digital world.
