KEDCO Sensitises Kano Community on Safety, Proactive Measures

POLITICS DIGEST – In its effort to ensure proactive measures that prevent customers from imminent danger, the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) said it has relocated 27 high tension wires and 128 low tension poles in Kano state.

The company said the disconnection follows violation of its right of way in Shagari Quarters Community of Kano metropolis, while educating them on the dangers of doing so.

KEDCO said the measure was taken to help save lives and prevent any disaster occurrence, which may eventually will lead to loss of lives and properties from both customers and the company’s staff.

They added that, “Any disaster that relates to issues of poles whether high or low tension could cause serious threat to lives and installations also; and we know that power equipment is very expensive.’’

KEDCO also explained that it engaged other stakeholders in the community for a crucial meeting to educate them on safety tips as well as sought for their supports for the protection of the company’s installations in the area.

Commenting on the issue, the KEDCO Managing Director, Dr. Jamil Isyaku Gwamna expressed his appreciation to the community for its role in mobilising members to benefit from KEDCO’s safety awareness campaign, while reiterating that the safety of lives and properties of their customers remained their priority.

The Kano DisCo boss, however, cautioned communities against building under or close to high tension wires, stressing that the magnitude of the danger of erecting buildings under the high tension and low tension wires is severe and should be avoided in the interest of all.

He said, “We are more committed now than ever and in that light, we have taken proactive measures to safeguard the lives and properties of both customers and even that of KEDCO.

“Prevention is more preferable than repair and that is why we have moved quickly to prevent the loss of lives and properties. This is part of our resolve in 2020 to ensure that anything that exposes our customers to danger is addressed with the urgency it requires”

“This is also an attempt to protect the company’s installations so that our capacity to continue to render top-notch services to our teeming customers are not thwarted, owing to the high regard we have for the satisfaction of our customers.

“It is our right to ensure that customers are protected even as it is theirs to ensure prompt payment and in that regard, we have put in place appropriate safety measures to protect lives and properties even in other communities.

While commending the Shagari Quarters community for its patience during the period of power outage occasioned by the execution of the safety measures, Gwamna charged residents to cultivate the habit of reporting any issue that would endanger the public, adding that KEDCO is ready to respond to their complaints at all time.

The KEDCO boss called on communities within its franchise areas to take up the responsibility of monitoring and reporting the activities of electricity vandals in the area, adding that such would help the company to serve them better.
