Electricity Tariff Increase: KEDCO Engages Stakeholders to Review Plan
POLITICS DIGEST – The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) says it will engage all the stakeholders involved in a public consultative forum to review the current Multi Year Tariff Order (MYTO).
This according to the company in line with the directive by Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) as a prerequisite for implementing the new electricity tariff plan
KEDCO in a statement on Friday said NERC had directed DisCos to conduct a public consultative forum in all their franchise areas at least once in each of the states under its supervision to discuss the matter and sample their opinions.
The company then said, “In this regard the consultative forum for KEDCO will hold in Kano on 18th, Feb 2020 at Ni’imah Guest Palace hotel and in Katsina on 20th Feb, 2020, at liyafa hotel, while that of Jigawa state will take place at Man power development Institute hall in Dutse on 25th Feb, 2020.

“According to the MD/CEO Dr. Jamil Isyaku Gwamna it is imperative to hold such exercise as it will allow the public to express their views on the review of the tariff, which is key to the development of the power sector not only in KEDCO but also in Nigeria as a whole.
“As a company we believe in dialogue and the directive by NERC is in line with the best global standard for input generation which is in tandem with our belief. As a company, we believe that communication when efficiently harnessed can propel growth and strengthen relations amongst stakeholders.
“This is why we are also using this medium to strengthen our relations with customers and other stakeholders through this consultative forum to ensure that we harness the inputs of all stakeholders to reflect a general view in tariff and other discussions that will ensure that everyone is on board and is carried along in power distribution franchise in Kano, Katsina and Jigawa States”, the statement added.
The MD then restated KEDCO’s commitment to the improvement of power supply as well as exploiting all available opportunities toward efficient service delivery in all its franchise areas.
Gwamna, therefore called on their customers and other stakeholders to make themselves available to discuss issues regarding the tariff and other issues in the interest of power sector development in the country.
