Kuje Prison Break: Why Buhari didn’t Cancel Senegal Trip – Presidency
POLITICS DIGEST- The Presidency has defended President Muhammadu Buhari’s decision to proceed to Dakar, Senegal, for an international engagement inspite of the audacious attack on Kuje Prison by suspected Boko Haram terrorists.
The terrorists, numbering about 100, had stormed the Prison on Tuesday with explosives and guns and succeeded in releasing many of their fellow insurgents who were in captivity.

After visiting the scene of the incident where he blamed the intelligence community for the attack, President Buhari proceeded to Senegal to participate in the International Development Association (IDA) for Africa Summit.
In a statement by its spokesman, Garba Shehu, the Presidency said cancelling such a trip would have encouraged the terrorists to keep carrying out their criminal activities.
“The Presidency wishes to use this opportunity to react to mounting criticism of the trip to Dakar, Senegal by the President, and to stress that Governments don’t stop working because nations face terrorist threats. To cancel the trip to Senegal would mean that the terrorists are successful in calling the shots, something that no responsible government in the world will allow,” the statement read in part.
